ABOUT US
The Dog River Howlers are an invitational rugby club (men and women) founded by Karl Fix in early 2007 for the lovers of "our game". The club is based in Dog River, Saskatchewan, Canada (actually the city of Regina) ,which was the fictional home for CTV's popular "CORNER GAS" TV series. The Howlers are made up of players and supporters from all parts of Canada, as well as a few from other countries, who believe that "rugby is more than a game, but a way of life". The club tours to interesting parts of the world, plays rugby and enjoys unique cultural experiences, while also giving something back to that country's sport and/or people. The Howlers also raise funds and contribute to worthwhile endeavours which are not related to rugby. The Howlers use "our game" as a vehicle to build bridges between people around the world.

ABOUT THE GAME WE LOVE.. - "The whole point of rugby is that it is, first and foremost, a state of mind , a spirit"" - Jean-Pierre Rives (French international rugby player)
From the first time that you laced up your boots and tightened every stud.
That virus known as rugby has been living in your blood.
With a thumb up under your nostril scratching gently on your brain.
An overgrown Neanderthal rejoicing in your pain !
And no matter where you travel.
You can take it as expected.
There will always be a breed of people hopelessly infected.
You see, that's the thing with this game.
It will always be the same.
And that is why we say that "it's more than a game, it's a way of life"
HOWLERS CLUB BADGE
Harvest Moon represents the stark beauty of the the Prairies and in turn also the game of rugby and life itself.
Traditional Prairie Grain Elevator represents the co-operative spirit that prevailed amongst our early pioneers that survived and then prospered in such a hostile environment. This co- operative spirit also pertains to the often tough and hostile game of rugby were it also takes a co-operative team effort to succeed. This of course also pertains to everyday life it self.
The Coyote is a prairie animal that lives in a pack but hunts singularly (contrary to wolves that live and hunt in a pack)..Rugby of course is the same. Also in rugby, we work and play together as team on and off the pitch. We also each have individual duties and responsibilities as part of that that team. In life we also live in a community/family but we have individual responsibilities to be part of these units .-- "Individual commitment to a group effort that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” Vince Lombardi (late great Green Bay Packer coach).
HOWLERS COLORS:
Red - color of the Canadian flag
Orange - color the Prairies' harvest moon.
Black - color of the Prairies' midnight sky
HONORARY CAPTAIN:
Lorne Cardinal who is the former cop of Dog River in CTV's award winning comedy series Corner Gas. Lorne, a cultish rugby man, acquired the rights to use this name from Prairie Pants Productions Inc., the producers of Corner Gas.
