THE DOG RIVER HOWLERS RUGBY CLUB
Connect with The Dog River Howlers
The video above shares a  song that  speaks to the Howlers ethos. We are all a community and we are stronger together. Teddy Roosevelt said it best 'Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.'

ABOUT THE HOWLERS

The Dog River Howlers Rugby Club is an invitational men’s and women’s rugby club founded in early 2007 by Karl Fix for those who love “our game.” The club is based in Dog River, Saskatchewan, Canada—better known in real life as the city of Regina, the fictional hometown made famous by CTV’s hit television series Corner Gas.

The Howlers are made up of players and supporters from across Canada, as well as several from other countries, all united by the belief that rugby is more than a game—it is a way of life.

The club tours to unique and interesting parts of the world, playing rugby while embracing local cultures and creating unforgettable shared experiences. Wherever they travel, the Howlers strive to give back, supporting the host country’s rugby community and contributing to local people and causes.

In addition to rugby-related initiatives, the Howlers raise funds and support worthwhile endeavors beyond the sport itself. Above all, the Dog River Howlers use “our game” as a powerful vehicle to build bridges between people and communities around the world.

OUR ETHOS
This song and video speak directly to the Howlers’ ethos: we are a community, and we are stronger together.
As Theodore Roosevelt said:  “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

ABOUT THE GAME WE LOVE

“The whole point of rugby is that it is, first and foremost, a state of mind—a spirit.”
— Jean-Pierre Rives, French international rugby player
From the first time you lace up your boots and tighten every stud, the virus known as rugby begins to live in your blood. No matter where you travel, you will always find others hopelessly infected by the same passion.
That is the magic of rugby.
It never changes.
And that is why we say:
“It’s more than a game—it’s a way of life.”

HOWLERS CLUB BADGE
  • Harvest Moon
Represents the stark beauty of the Prairies, and in turn, the essence of rugby and life itself.
  • Traditional Prairie Grain Elevator
Symbolizes the cooperative spirit of early pioneers who survived—and prospered—in a harsh environment. This same cooperative spirit defines rugby, where success depends on collective effort, resilience, and trust. The lesson applies equally to everyday life.
  • The Coyote
A prairie animal that lives in a pack yet often hunts alone—much like rugby, where individuals have specific responsibilities within a unified team. In rugby, as in life, we work together while each person plays a vital individual role.

“Individual commitment to a group effort—that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.”
— Vince Lombardi

HOWLERS COLOURS
  • Red — The colour of the Canadian flag
  • Orange — The colour of the Prairie harvest moon
  • Black — The colour of the Prairie midnight sky
HONORARY CAPTAIN
Lorne Cardinal, who played the beloved police officer in CTV’s award-winning comedy series Corner Gas, serves as the Dog River Howlers’ Honorary Captain. A passionate rugby man, Lorne acquired the rights to the Dog River name from Prairie Pants Productions Inc., the producers of Corner Gas.
