The Howlers entered 13 teams (5 men's,, 5 women's, 2 U-18 men's  and 1 U-16 men's)  in 5 tournaments in 5 countries (Las Vegas USA, Calgary Canada, Heidelberg Germany, Havana Cuba and Tobago) . They came away with 4 first place, 2 second place and 2 third place finishes. Along the way 108 different players put on a Howlers jersey (38 men, 39 women, 19 U-18 men and 12 U-16 men). What we are most proud of however is that in 2012 the Howlers helped raise some $150,000 for what they deemed good causes(more details on their facebook and web page).This included rugby in Canada and other parts of the globe, abused women's shelters, a new wheelchair accessible van for a former rugby player, an orphanage in Cuba and an integrated family center offering early learning and daytime respite for medically fragile children, their siblings, and children. Besides that they provided much needed rugby balls, playing kit and t-shirts to communities in Fiji and Cuba.

And that is why we say that - " IT'S MORE THAN A GAME IT'S A WAY OF LIFE "

In their relatively short history the Dog River Howlers Rugby Club have played in 26 tournaments (men,women and men's U-16 and U-18) starting with the ALBA Games in Jiguana, Cuba in May 2009, of which they have won 15. To date 184 players have pulled on the Howlers' jersey to participate in 7's tournaments in various parts of the globe .This includes nationally capped players (30) from Canada, Fiji, Chile, Venezuela and Mexico including the man most consider the greatest 7's player in history, the magician himself - Serevi.

After going 6 - 0 in the preliminary games the Dog River Howlers's women's team defeated the Cuban National Women's team 29-0 to claim the top prize at the Havana Howlers Rugby 7's on December 1 and 2, 2012. The men also won 5 games including beating the Mexican National team in the semi final game before loosing to the Trinidad and Tobago Enthusiasts 27 - 7 in the championship .

Besides the rugby we witnessed the world renowned Tropicana show, the 1998 Grammy Award wining Buena Vista Social Club and had our traditional visit to the local orphanage  that the Howlers support.

The men went undefeated in the 14 team, 6 country men's division on the International Tobago Rugby 7's Tournament culminating with a 27 - 15 victory in the championship game over Harvard RFC (Trinidad) who had not lost a game all year.The women lost a squeaker(14-12) to a fellow Canadian team the Beavers RFC (invitational select side from Ontario) in the semi final of the 10 team, 6 country women's division but then went on to defeat the Atlanta Harlequins USA) for 3rd place by 20- 10. The tournament championship was won by Rugby Eccosse ( 37- 0 over Beavers), a very high level team made up of international players from Scotland, Wales, England and Sweden.

This Tobago tour/tournament a few things to remember besides the actual rugby, There was goat racing, boat racing, mud wresting and sliding competitions , sunset cool down swims, X-mas Carol sing songs, Paul van Wyck " Juice" turned local DJ and a 55 year old player named John Law (father of fellow teammate Rob Law) who had players from all teams on their feet and cheering for his amazing performance.

The men went undefeated in the 14 team, 6 country men's division on the International Tobago Rugby 7's Tournament culminating with a 27 - 15 victory in the championship game over Harvard RFC (Trinidad) who had not lost a game all year.

The women lost a squeaker(14-12) to their fellow Canadian team the Beavers RFC (invitational select side from Ontario) in the semi final of the 10 team, 6 countrywomrn's divisiion but then went on to defeat the Atlanta Harlequins USA) for 3rd place by 20- 10. The tournament championship was won by Rugby Eccosse ( 37- 0 over Beavers), a very high level team made up of international players from Scotland, Wakes. England and Sweden.

This tour/tournament a few things to remember besides the actual rugby, There was goat racing, boat racing (speed beer drinking),mud wresting and sliding, sunset swims, X-mas Carols sing songs,Paul van Wyck " Juice" turned local DJ and a 55 year old player named John Law (father of fellow teammate Rob Law) who had players from all teams on their feet and cheering for his amazing performance.

After going 6 - 0 in the preliminary games the Howlers's women's team defeated the Cuban National Women's team 29-0 to claim the top prize. The men also won 5 games including beating the Mexican National team in the semi final game before loosing to the Trinidad and Tobago Enthusiasts 27 - 7 in the championship .

Besides the rugby we witnessed the world renowned Tropicana show, the 1998 Grammy Award wining Buena Vista Social Club and had our traditional visit to the local orphanage that the Howlers support
