==================

2. Name: Julie Foster
----------------

Born - 1969 in Winnipeg Manitoba

Caps: 1996-2006. Forty Seven - 15s caps. Ten 7s cap. Three Rugby World Cups

Early rugby - school(s), club(s), rep sides, age grade Canada with dates : Started playing club with the Regina Breakers in 1991, also on team Saskatchewan after which I was long listed for Canada after firs National Championship.

Later rugby - Still playing club and coaching the Regina Rage and the Regina Women's League along with the Saskatchewan Women's Provincial Team. Recently played for the Dog River Howlers, and the Prairie Fire Ultra Sevens sides.

Your Influences: My influences were my early coaches - Leanne Balliett and Kristen Karwandy who taught me that rugby is a great game. Many of the players I played with and against. They made the player I am.

Most memorable rugby game(s)/experience(s)/memories: My most memorable game was when I scored 3 tries vs France at my first Canada cup in 96.I have so many memories of all the good times on and off the field. The camaraderie of playing anywhere in the world and always knowing someone. It's one of those games.

How did rugby effect/influence your life: Rugby has influenced me to return the favour to anyone that wants to learn the game.

Current involvement in rugby: My current involvement includes playing and coaching The Reginaage 7s, Regina Women's 15s, coaching senior Saskatchewan Women's Provincial Team and the University Of Regina Regina Cougars 7s Team. Also refereeing.

What are you doing now (residence, work, family etc): I live in Regina, work for the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region, engaged to Darren Beaulac (coaches Saskatchewan Women U-18) and we have a four year old son named Wyatt.

Input/suggestions for Canadian rugby and or young players: My suggestion is to always remember to have fun. It's a great game.

Howlers " Back To The Future " - Tom Woods
==================
The Dog River Howlers Rugby Club's facebook page (www.facebook.com/dogriverhowlers) will be publishing a series on Canada's ex international players (men and women) to let you know who these trail blazers were and are now. This is the first in the series .

1. Tom Woods
------------

Born (place and date): Esquimalt BC October 29, 1962

Early rugby - school(s), club(s), rep sides and age grade Canada teams with dates : Highrock Junior High, Esquimalt High School.

Later rugby - club(s), select sides, Canada (including the number of caps) with dates: James Bay Athletic Association, Crimson Tide, BC and Canada 1984-1997.

Number of caps : 19

Your Influences: Tillman Briggs, Gary Johnston, Hans DeGoede, Pat F--kin' Parfrey, Murray Allen

Most memorable rugby game(s)/experience(s)/memories: Most memorable game was the 1991 World Cup 1/4 final and all of my most memorable rugby experiences/memories revolve around social, drinking, non-rugby evenings with the boys when we were allowed to blow off a little steam.

How did rugby effect/influence your life: Everything - jobs, career, health, family, wife, friends, etc., is in some way tied to rugby. If I lived 125 years I could not give back what the sport has given me.

Current involvement in rugby: Past-president JBAA 2002-2012, President/Manager/of the Canadian Classics 1995-2013, Rugby Canada Business Development role currently.

What are you doing now (residence, work, family etc): Esquimalt BC, 3 daughters 10,10 ad 7, C/L wife Heidi. I do contract work after retiring from the police and fire department in December 2012 after 30 years.

Input/suggestions for Canadian rugby and or young players: Don't lose the social aspect of the sport. It is what sets us aside and miles ahead of every other team sport out there and keeps us tight as Canadians!

This is the third in a series featuring Canada's ex international rugby players‏. Please join the Dog River Howlers facebook page to see all of them - www.facebook.com/dogriverhowlers   3. Dan Jackart=======

Born (place and date):------------------ Natal, BC - May 4, 1960
Number of caps : ---------------21 from 1986 to 1995

Early rugby - school(s), club(s), rep sides and age grade Canada teams with dates :
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lord Byng high school 1973-1975.

Later rugby - club(s), select sides, Canada : ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meralomas, UBC Old Boys Ravens, Vancouver Reps and  BC Provincial Team,

Your Influences:-------------
Ted Bishop, Max MacDonald, Ian Birtwell, Spence McTavish, Gus Fumano, Angus Stuart, Gary Dukelow, Billy Anderson, and Al Perrie

Most memorable rugby game(s)/experience(s)/memories:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beating the Welsh in Cardiff Arms park, Beating Scotland in St. John New Brunswick, Beating France in Ottawa (with 14 players for most of the game), the 1991 world cup (after which we were ranked in the top eight in the world), never losing to the USA, and dancing with Al Charron to the Village People's YMCA on many occasions.

How did rugby effect/influence your life:
----------------------------------
Everything - jobs, career, health, family, wife, friends, etc., is in some way tied to rugby. Rugby has enriched my life and the associations that I've made have smoothed the bumps on many occasions. It gave me the courage to believe that I was as useful and as intelligent as everyone else, and it taught me that our interaction and relationships with other humans is the only important thing that we do in this life. My wife, Trudy, is less philosophical than I about the sport.

Current involvement in rugby:
----------------------------------------------
Forwards coach for the UBCOB under sixteen program with head coach Adam Style. I play the odd game with The Legends over-forty club, and I play a few first division games a year for the UBCOB squad (when they invariably run short of front row knuckle-heads).

What are you doing now (residence, work, family etc):
 ---------------------------------------------
I live in Vancouver with my wonderful family; Trudy, Laine (17), and Ian (15). We have a home in the Dunbar area that is ninety years old and that I am forever restoring and renovating. I work as a Captain in the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Service and I will retire in two years after twenty-seven years of service. I am the chief cook, fixer, groundskeeper, referee, and chauffeur at the aforementioned house. I go hunting in the autumn with my front row buddy Donny Hewson, our ex-CFL buddy Phil Charron, and our collective kids. My passion is to have friends and family over to the house and to cook them a nice meal. I often, usually when I am scrubbing out a bathroom or performing even less appealing chores, wonder what Pascal Ondartes, or Steve McDowell, or Jeff Probyn are doing right at the same moment. They are probably relaxing in their own health club or having their driver take them to meet someone famous for a lunch date. I wonder, and I conclude that I wouldn't change a single thing about my life. I love Canada, and I love Canadian rugby.

A FOOTNOTE -although Dan himself did not mention this when he filed out the above questionnaire  he along with his team mates Norm Hadley(lock) and Gord McKinnon  ( flanker) and were named to the 1991 RWC World Fifteen

Montauban XV – ProD2, Top14 2005-2008
Calgary Canadian Irish Athletic Club – My official home club in my adopted province
Oak Bay Castaway Wanderers – a special place in my development

Your Influences:
-------------
Kirk Robertson (Mayfield), John MacMillan, Dack Heslop, Chris Leitch, Nathan and Andrew Smith, Kieran Crowley and Graeme Moffat.

Most memorable rugby game(s)/experience(s)/memories:
-------------------------------------------------
1. Beating the dirty Argy’s in Calgary (2005) at the end of a long summer of rugby.

2. Rugby World Cup 2011 – Just a fantastic group of players, coaches and supporters. Got to 50 games there and don’t know how!!!

3. Beating Fiji at the Hong Kong 7’s in 2004 to advance to the cup round – I came on with about 30 seconds to play, never touched the ball and didn’t make a tackle, but someone snapped my picture in celebration and I ended up on the cover of a couple of newspapers….just like I planned it.

How did rugby effect/influence your life:
----------------------------------
Anyone who plays rugby knows that this question is like asking “How do your parents affect/influence your life”. It just does. Rugby invades your sense of self, it builds character, it strengthens resolve and it shape who you are and who you become. I just hope that in living the rest of my life that I can apply many of the awesome lessons that I learned from the sport. I know for sure that the friends I’ve made over the course of my career will remain and I hope that I am always in some shape or form stay involved in the sport.

Current involvement in rugby:
-------------------------
I am a director with the Prairie Wolf Pack organization which keeps me heavily involved in rep. rugby and I spend a small amount of time doing drop-in coaching sessions around Calgary. I’m a big fan of all of the Canadian teams these days and I am very impressed with the strides they’ve made in the last 3-4 yrs.

What are you doing now (residence, work, family etc):
--------------------------------------------
I am married now to a very understanding woman (Chantal Mackenzie) and I work in Calgary in the Oil and Gas sector. I spend most of my days sharpening my golf game and planning my Olympic squash dream (is that sport even in the Olympics…??). I am also a struggling reality T.V. star (meaning I’ve never been on reality t.v.), as my wife and I are 0-1 in Amazing Race Canada applications.

Input/suggestions for Canadian rugby and or young players:
--------------------------------------------------
Play more rugby. There is a massive focus on strength and conditioning and building up these athletes and I think that young kids sometimes forget that to move to the next level they must be intelligent rugby players. I feel that kids could progress further if they are great rugby players than they could if they were great athletes whom we try and turn into a rugby players. Get a ball in your hands and go play.

Other comments:
--------------
If Kieran Crowley is reading this, I played 40 minutes for the Calgary Irish 2nd‘s a couple of weeks ago and felt pretty sharp. 0 tackles (0 missed tackles), 2 handling errors (pretty good for me), 0 line breaks (which is only 1 less than my career total) and 3 great ruck inspections… If you are short in the centres, I’ll be waiting by the phone.
