Beating the Welsh in Cardiff Arms park, Beating Scotland in St. John New Brunswick, Beating France in Ottawa (with 14 players for most of the game), the 1991 world cup (after which we were ranked in the top eight in the world), never losing to the USA, and dancing with Al Charron to the Village People's YMCA on many occasions.
How did rugby effect/influence your life:
----------------------------------
Everything - jobs, career, health, family, wife, friends, etc., is in some way tied to rugby. Rugby has enriched my life and the associations that I've made have smoothed the bumps on many occasions. It gave me the courage to believe that I was as useful and as intelligent as everyone else, and it taught me that our interaction and relationships with other humans is the only important thing that we do in this life. My wife, Trudy, is less philosophical than I about the sport.
Current involvement in rugby:
----------------------------------------------
Forwards coach for the UBCOB under sixteen program with head coach Adam Style. I play the odd game with The Legends over-forty club, and I play a few first division games a year for the UBCOB squad (when they invariably run short of front row knuckle-heads).
What are you doing now (residence, work, family etc):
---------------------------------------------
I live in Vancouver with my wonderful family; Trudy, Laine (17), and Ian (15). We have a home in the Dunbar area that is ninety years old and that I am forever restoring and renovating. I work as a Captain in the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Service and I will retire in two years after twenty-seven years of service. I am the chief cook, fixer, groundskeeper, referee, and chauffeur at the aforementioned house. I go hunting in the autumn with my front row buddy Donny Hewson, our ex-CFL buddy Phil Charron, and our collective kids. My passion is to have friends and family over to the house and to cook them a nice meal. I often, usually when I am scrubbing out a bathroom or performing even less appealing chores, wonder what Pascal Ondartes, or Steve McDowell, or Jeff Probyn are doing right at the same moment. They are probably relaxing in their own health club or having their driver take them to meet someone famous for a lunch date. I wonder, and I conclude that I wouldn't change a single thing about my life. I love Canada, and I love Canadian rugby.
A FOOTNOTE -although Dan himself did not mention this when he filed out the above questionnaire he along with his team mates Norm Hadley(lock) and Gord McKinnon ( flanker) and were named to the 1991 RWC World Fifteen
