Many thanks go out to artist Ladd Fogarty who also donated the "Dog River" and "We Stand On Guard For Thee" paintings for previous Howlers fundraising endeavours. He again kindly donated this attached amazing piece of art (Muscowpetung Sage Woman ) to be auctioned off at this event. There will also be 60 limited edition 24" by 18" numbered and signed gilclee canvas prints for sale at $400 each (with a tax receipt) .
Here is what Ladd wrote --- I am an Art teacher and a student of art; always exploring new media and processes and watching how young people learn. I am currently working in acrylic, wood, clay, soapstone, and glass gaining most of my inspiration from Saskatchewan land, sky, water and people who live in harmony with the earth.
When I begin the creative process I look forward to the challenge of making something beautiful. I choose to represent ‘place’ as it is experienced and as it is remembered, always considering the characteristics of light on the painted, carved or inlaid surface.
Each painting, wood vessel and clay object gives me the opportunity to share my way of experiencing our world. I consider myself very fortunate when others enjoy my work. This is the most satisfying part of the creative process.
This painting was created specifically for this cause and as a tribute to the journey of self-discovery of my first daughter and first granddaughter. Mia and Geneva are of Cree and Saulteaux heritage, both carry the name Wapiskihit Kihew Iskwew (White Eagle Woman) proudly. I have been blessed to be their Father /Grandfather and know their future is good because of traditions such as what is represented in this painting “Muscowpetung Sage Woman”.
