Maria (Jaworski) Samson was named the top National senior Women's Team Fifteens Rugby Player of the Year. Samson is relatively new on the scene, getting her first cap in 2011, but has quickly become a force on the squad through her selfless attitude and determination. Samson's award is notable for her year was one of transition, moving from centre and fly half to the second row.
Maria in 2011 was the driving force behind starting the Dog River Howlers Rugby Club's most successful women's program which has had some 50 players competing in 9 tournaments in 5 countries, winning 6 of them.
Lucas Hammond who has played with the Howlers on the U-18 and senior men's level won the Canadian National Team Men's Young Rugby Player (U-20) Award. Hammond joined the NSMT 7s for four IRB Sevens World Series stops for the past 18 months despite his age and is als a member of the U-20 National Team preparing for the Junior World Trophy in Chile this year.
Congratulations Lucas and Maria !!!
