Currently participating in the SAS Institute Heidelberg Junior International Sevens are 4 European national teams (Belgium, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Switzerland) along with regional select sides from France, England and Germany.Howlers playerslwill be selected from across Canada. We have asked clubs, sub unions and unions to put forward names. This will be the first U-16 sevens select side to be assembled and in turn compte in and international tournament.
Wednesday June 20 - flights to arrive around noon in Frankfurt . Transport to take everyone 100km to youth hostel in Heidelberg . At 5:30 pm supper at SCN Heidelberg RFC clubhouse (http://www.scneuenheim.com/) which are a very short walk from the youth hostel followed by a 7:30 training session at the club fields.
Thursday June 21- breakfast at 8:00 am. Training from 9:30 to 11:30 am at SCN Heidelberg RFC . Lunch at the clubhouse. Afternoon tour of Heidelberg. At 5:30 pm - supper at a famous old Heidelberg restaurant . Training at 7:30 pm at SCN fields.Friday June 22- breakfast at 8:00 am. Training from 9:30 to 11:30 am at SCN Heidelberg fields which are a very short walk from the youth hostel.Afternoon trip to Spyer ( 33 km from Heidelberg)(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speyer ) an old Roman city that is over 2,000 years old or a free afternoon in Heidelberg. Saturday June 23 - breakfast at 8:00 am. At 10:30 is the team parade after which we play 4 games that day finishing 6:00 pm . We will probably eat at the fields and then at 8:00 all the teams take a boat trip down the Neckar River (http://www.travelsignposts.com/Germany/sightseeing/neckar-river-boat-cruises ).
Sunday June 24 - breakfast at 8:00 am. Play 3 games with games starting starting at 10:00 am and finishing at 5:00pm followed at 6:30 by a BBQ for all teams in the stadium. Free evening (tour court session) .Monday June 25 - breakfast at 8:00 am after which we travel up to Rudesheim (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%BCdesheim_am_Rhein ) on the Rhein River( 123 km from Heidelberg) . Lunch there . Drive to Frankfurt airport (55km). Vancouver Transat flight leaves at 7:40 pm. The other flights players should try and book leaving as late as possible that day.
The Howlers coach for this tour will be Shane Thompson who is the most capped 7's Canadian player and at one point was the most capped 7's player in the world. Shane was also capped for Canada in 15's and is also a former Canadian 7's National team coach. He is currently the director of the BC Elite Development 7's Program. The manager will be named along with the final team selections on April 16.
