I am writing this letter to thank you for your donation in support of my recovery.
As you know on October 5, 2013 I suffered a fracture to my C4 & C5 vertebrae causing damage to my spinal cord during a rugby game. When I first arrived at the hospital that afternoon, I did not have any movement nor could I feel anything below my shoulders. I was placed in traction to relieve the pressure on my spinal cord. The following Tuesday I underwent surgery where the broken disc was removed and my vertebrae were fused together with a titanium plate. Also, the surgeon put in place rods and screws to further stabilize my spine.
On Friday November 8, 2013 I was discharged from Kelowna General Hospital and am now back at my parents house. I will be doing outpatient therapy at the hospital 2-3 times a week for rehabilitation. I am feeling very optimistic and encouraged with every passing day as I am seeing continued improvement. I know that I will have many months of physiotherapy and occupational therapy ahead of me.
I consider myself so blessed to be a part of a rugby community not only locally but worldwide. In this time of crisis I am so appreciative of the support that was rallied around my recovery. When the time comes I am excited to return to the game in whatever way I am able. Rugby will always be a huge part of my life.
Again, I thank you so much for your support and thoughts. I want you to know that even though it will be a long and unknown road to recovery, you made a big difference and words cannot express how truly grateful I am.
Sincerely,
Judah Campbell
