A major purpose of this evening is to hold an alumni event for past national team sevens players and introduce them to the BC Elite Youth Sevens program, which is now in its second year and has been a huge success in preparing athletes for the next level. This program has been a privately funded model that with the assistance and support of the BCRU has given many boys aged 13-17 some amazing opportunities and the necessary experience to compete against top international teams.
The British Columbia Elite Youth Sevens teams were unstoppable recently during the 2012 Las Vegas International High School Sevens events. The BC-1s captured the High School International Sevens title and the BC-3s also won their division, the Vegas High School ‘Open’ Sevens. The BC-2s took home some hardware, winning the Plate against Ontario. By coming to this fundraiser you will be helping future Canadian Olympians, as programs like the BC Elite Youth Sevens Academy will no doubt help our country have a chance to take the podium as rugby 7s makes its international debut in 2016 at the Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Olympics.
Spence McTavish and Doug Tate will be hosting the event. We encourage you to sign up early, as we only have 110 spaces available for the evening.
